Reactive load banks are available in capacities from 20kVA to 5000kVA and higher depending on the application for voltages from 36VAC 400Hz, up to 16kV 50/60Hz and higher.

We offer resistive and reactive load banks used to perform precise power tests (power generators, UPSs, transformers) by changing the voltage and current characteristics of the load by changing the phase shift of the so-called "cos fi". In a nutshell, they simulate the actual conditions of receivers such as: lighting, electric motors, DC/AC power supplies, etc.

Why is it worth using resistive/reactive load banks? When testing power systems only with a resistor, we will not check 100% of the power source, because most manufacturers give the rated parameters of generators at cos fi = 0.8 and not at the value of cos fi = 1 that a typical resistor has.

Application example:

generator set with a power of 100kVA/80kW/cos fi 0.8/400VAC

resistance load tests at 100% rated power of the unit will allow to perform the 80kW/80kVA test and the current 116A

tests with resistance-reactance load bank of the nature of the load cos fi = 0.8 at 100% rated power of the unit will be performed by the 80kW/100kVA test and current 145A

The conclusions are that only with the variable cos fi can we 100% check the correct operation of the power source and electrical connections and installations. In the case of our solutions, we can change this parameter from the capacitive value "0.1" through the resistive "1" to the inductive value "0.1" depending on the model of the device. It is only with the use of such resistors that we can check the diesel engine and the generator in 100% ( in the case of resistive load banks, we will check the engine in 100%, and the generator in 75%), i.e. the electrical system, protections and ATS systems, etc.
